Why Codelens is not part of Visual Studio Community, but it is part of Visual Studio Code? They both are free tools.

Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Thank you for your feedback and now the CodeLens is available for Visual Studio Code and not includes in the VS Community version, it is by designed and sorry for this inconvenience.

I found some other community members have reported this suggestion to the VS Product Team, please check this: CodeLens for Community Edition and the VS Product Team declined it as below:

**We’re glad you find Code Lens a useful feature, however at present we have no plans to bring it to the Community Edition of Visual Studio; it will remain one of the benefits of the Visual Studio 2015 Professional and Enterprise editions.

**As such, we’re declining this suggestion at present.

From the comments, some customers have the same idea as yours, maybe you can try to report this user voices with VS community 2017 version and share the link, we will help you vote this new user voices.

Meanwhile, if we find any similar extension for VS community 2017 in the future, we will let you know, thank you for your understanding.
