You probably either mix up different things or just poorly phrase the question.

You face with two absolutely different choices: first one is ASP.NET vs. Silverlight. In both cases, you have another independent choice: what language to use.

If you clarified the question in this way, it would not make it correct anyway: all of those choices depend on many factors you did not share with us: what are the goals of your development, requirements, expected qualities? What is your experience, skills, code asserts? What are requirements for prerequisites you may or may not demand? What is the expected set of profiles of your users?

Without this information, the question about the choice is totally pointless.

Well, if you have a trawl around the web it would seem to indicate that Silverlight may not be around much longer - though that may change. Asp.Net, on the other hand seesm to be here to stay and it is always my preference (WebForms, MVC or whatver othe rflavor you can find). That''s not to say that there also many other equally worthwhile web development languages/tools out there: php, for instance, is excellent. You should take some time to evaluate them all before deciding which tool suits your purpose.
