How do you encode a live web cam source into a smooth streaming .isml file and then send that on to a publishing point so a client can access it from IIS.

I have tried using Expression Encoder to send a live web cam source to a Windows Media Server 8 and always get the message: "The server service that received the HTTP push request is not a compatible version of Windows Media Services (WMS). The error may indicate the push request was received by IIS instead of WMS. Ensure WMS is started and hs the HTTP Server control protocol property enabled and try again". I have done this and I'm definitely going to WMS. Can someone tell me what is wrong please?

My ultimate goal is to get the Webcam source I have into a Smooth Streaming destination for display in client browsers. Is there a better way to do this. I want to take advantage of the multiple bit rates of smooth streaming.

I would be really grateful for any help.

I suspect, from the error message, you're using Expression Encoder V3.  In V3, only Windows Media broadcasts were supported.

Expression Encoder V4 offers a very simple solution as it supports IIS Smooth Streaming.  You'll set your webcam as your Live source just as was done in version 3. In V4, you can now specufy an output format of IIS Smooth streaming instead of WMS.  The only other required component is an active publishing point and you're ready to go.
