I have created a project with 14 tasks all of which are linked and auto scheduled. I also created a summary task for the pupose of grouping the tasks in a phase and also for it to show total duration. The project was also scheduled using the standard calendar. I wanted to experiment with an accelerated schedule by creating a new calendar with 6 day work weeks an 10 hours per day. When I applied the calendar to my existing schedule, the duration on the summary task did not change. Why is that and what is the best way to show an accelerated schedule?

Remember that the Duration field is the difference in working time between the start and finish. By making Saturday or Sunday a working day you are creating an extra working day so a 6 day task is still a 6 day task, it just finishes a day earlier.

As far as the 10 hour day goes, that may or may not contribute to shortening the schedule. If you define a "day" as 10 hours instead of the default 8 hours your WILL see a difference in the Duration field, but a 10 hour day by itself will not shorten the schedule (i.e. change the finish date). All a 10 hour day will really do is redefine how many hours there are in a day. For example a 5 day task (using the default 8 hours per day setting) will now display as 4 days in the Duration field. Forty hours is still forty hours.
