< WMV仅仅是ASF的一种形式 - WMA是另一种形式  ASF可能包含仅音频，仅视频或音频和视频。

WMV内容为带视频和音频的ASF

WMA内容为ASF仅音频

ASX是一种XML文件格式，用于定义要按顺序播放的ASF / WMV / WMA等文件的播放列表。

无以上格式有助于处理各种客户端硬件功能和网络性能。

Hi,

I am streaming a wmv from a webpage directly referring the wmv file via a url no indexer used. It seems to work fine for most users but some people complain it is too slow, sluggish, etc.

While reading I ran into a suggestion to use asf and asx files to stream just like real media uses.  I downloaded Expression Encoder 4.0 but I could not figure out how to export to asf format.

My questions:

1. What is the best solution to stream (considering different users with different broadbands)

2. Is the idea asf/asx good?

3. How do you export to asf file from Expression Encoder?

WMV is simply one form of ASF -- WMA is another form  ASF may contain Audio only, Video only or Audio and Video together.

WMV content is ASF with Video and Audio

WMA content is ASF with Audio only

ASX is an XML file format for defining a playlist of ASF/WMV/WMA, etc files to be played in sequence.

None of the above formats is much help in dealing with a wide range of client hardware capability and network performance. 

The more recent Smooth Streaming format (supported by Expression Encoder 2 SP1 and later versions) provides a more flexible solution for supporting a broad range of client hardware.
