we use code contracts in our project. The contracts are enabled in the project file. I have installed the code contracts addIn in my VS2010. All works fine.

If other developers build the same project with identical source code but without the addIn the contracts don't work. Is it really required that all developers have to install the plugin?

To build with Code Contracts you must install the tools.  This is required to get the rewriter.  Without the tools your contracts won't work.

However, you don't need to install the Visual Studio plugin.  This is optional.
