I'm trying to search for a solution to add VSTS groups to a Project group by default. Does anyone know if this is possible with out-of the box functionality?

As per my understanding you cannot add the VSTS user or VSTS group by default. You have to add the user where you should have the project administrator, project collection administrator, or account owner permissions.
