I am an instructor for an Intro to C++ course and I am using Visual Studio as development platform. On PC, I ask my students to always create a project using the Empty Project option under Visual C++.

However, some of my students have a Mac and they report me that they are unable to find "Empty Project" or Visual C++ in the Visual Studio Community version for Mac.

What is the problem with the Console Application and/or Desktop Wizard templates? Is it the precompiled headers? I can explain the use of them. I think the students should be taught to use precompiled headers in Visual Studio, at least for simple projects.
