There is a solution, but if you do not use any third party tools, then you have to start with research:
First, find out the format(s) of .doc files (and there have been several different and incompatible versions, even just those produced by Microsoft Word)
Then do the same for epub files. Fortunately, there is only the one of those, and google should find it pretty easily.

Then, you have to write your own input code to read the doc file(s) from the data spec(s), and then output code to generate epub files.

If you do this, I would keep the two as separate projects and have maybe an internal intermediate format so that you can add input and / or output formats later.

But it''s lot of work.
