I recently installed the Free version of Expression Encoder 3.

I was please to see It was able to import my AVCHD lite files (.mts), play them and encode them.

Then I installed the October QFE, and importing these .mts files stopped working. It imports them, gives no error, but there is no video or audio (black). If I start encode, it works but creates a black file.

I then Un-installed the QFE, and it is working again. I tried it one more time (reinstalled, stopped working, uninstalled works again)

So it definitely looks like something was broken by the QFE in regards to playing these files.

You might want to play around with the MPEG-2 splitter and H.264 codecs in the compatibility tab. You might want to also try other H.264 codecs than FFDShow, which has quite a few problems. I've had some good luck with either CoreAVC, MainConcept and the one that comes with Divx.

The reason the behavior changed between v3 and v3QFE is a few bug fixes which lets you use more of a mix between our codecs and 3rd party ones. You're obviously experiencing a bad mix in your particular case, so disabling some of them will probably fix your issue.
