When I shutdown windows 10, it is not allowing for my application to shutdown gracefully.  Windows seems to be just killing it before it exits.  It's not that my app is slow in shutting down either.

This behavior is different from Windows 7, as far as I can tell.

From what I have found on the web, it's my understanding that the OS should, by default, wait several seconds or until all applications have exited, before shutting down.

I seems like I have to be missing something obvious here.

Any help is very much appreciated.

The problem is, you haven't said some important things about your application.

Is your application a console application or a UI application? is it visible or hidden?

There are some situations when an application will just be terminated, but these are mostly applications with no visible window trying to delay shutdown.
