I have a working adfs server and would now like to add a adfs proxy. I have run AdfsSetup and selected the proxy install. I run the configuration and type in the Federation service name and test connect completes successfully. When I click next it asks for credentials that will be used to establish a trust between the federation server proxy and the federation service.

Have you tried with someone which has administrator permissions on the AD FS boxes? I'm not really sure if you are supposed to give in the service account user...
