Not sure what you are asking to do.  But it is not nessary to create a custom field programmatically using vs2010 as it is only needed to be done once.  Also custom fields can have formula to evaluate other fields like start and end dates.

while it is possible to create custom fields via the PSI not sure that is worth the time and effort to do that.  If you could explain more your requirements we may be able to help.
