I'm new to programing and currently I'm using Visual Studio 2015. I want to read data from an XML file and have found this instruction:

However, when following the instruction, I can not find the required reference to System.xml.dll in the "add reference" pop up box. Actually, the content inside the box is EMPTY. After a few research, people suggest that the VS I'm using is corrupted/ bad installment. Is there a way to fix this problem without re-download and re-install VS? can I find and download the missing dll file at some trustworthy source, perhaps?

I think you don't need to reinstall VS. I think you did not install a .net framework.
