Thanks for taking the time to read my question.

I want to be able to draw a line with an error at the end from one cell to another, but I need it to have 5 segments. I can create one with 3, but cannot add segments.

I do not have shapes on my spreadsheet. I can draw a line between shapes and Excel will update the line to have 5 segments automatically, but I don't want shapes on my spreadsheet.

Really what I'm after is a dependency line between two tasks like MS Project has...

Sure you can, just use two sets of lines and start the second one where the first one ends.
The picture is of two 3 segment lines (elbows) joined together and grouped (right-click menu).
The 'group' can be easily copied by pressing the Ctrl key and dragging.
