As far as background for this issue goes, up until a few days ago we were running our main www site on SharePoint, we recently moved it to a simple IIS site. In our config, We had a default zone called author.domain.com and we extended an anonymous site to the internet zone for www.

This week we moved the www site to a different IIS server but we are keeping our international sites on SharePoint for the time being.  We unextended the www site but didn't delete the IIS site. We then extended the default zone to intl.domain.com in the internet zone.

We found that search on the default zone works fine, like it always has. Search on this newly extended zone does not return results. When we do a search on our Australian site it ends up at the following url.

Interestingly, if we change the url to the following we end up getting the expected results.

We have checked the Content Sources and the start address is set to default zone address author.domain.com, we added intl.domain.com to the list and ran a crawl with no results. We reset the search index and completed a full crawl again with no results. The second url still returns results after the reset.

For this issue, please clear the configuration cache on all servers and perform an IISRESET, check if it works.
