I just tried to follow your steps and uninstall an application I registered from Visual Studio. I was unable to remove it using Powershell, but I did manage to uninstall it from Start. The UI experience is a bit misleading, because the application was still on Start after I uninstalled it, but when I clicked on it to run it, it disappeared from the menu.
