It is my understanding that Search Engine Optimization for SharePoint 2013 is used for only external facing SharePoint sites. However, a colleague has inferred that it can improve the overall results and functionality of an internal facing SharePoint environment.  I cannot find any documentation on if or how using SEO benefits a internal only (intranet) SharePoint environment and it's search functionality.  All documentation and discussions I've found so far talk about SEO in regards to external facing SharePoint sites. Could anyone help me resolve this question? Thank you in advance for the help.

Internal site is not searched by internet search engine. So I don't think it suitable for internal site.
