I am currently using windows  10. I love using both headphone and speaker at the same time. So my main sound is from the headphone, however when i try adding another speaker to another hole , the headphone sound got disable and i cant hear it from the headphone but from the speaker only. I usually do not have this problem and i have been doing it since windows 8 was quite new.

I will assume the answer is (b) for now.

If I change the setting to pick "Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously" then that allows me to do (b). The default setting seems to be "Mute the rear output device when a front headphone plugged in."
