I'm trying to add images stored offline on DVD's to a catalog, it's incredibly slow.  I do have it set to high quality/ large previews in in "Thumbnails & Previews".  Create full screen previews is also checked.  I just added 8 images that the media was a little under 4 G, it took 8 minutes.  I  was importing by selecting files & folders.  Is it slow because our files are so large or because we are building large previews?  I'm comparing EM2 to Extensis Portfolio and Lightroom which import from DVD's much faster.

Another issue I have is EM2 not being able to export to email for files stored offline but I guess that's just a limitation for now.

In another thread Anita O suggests that import from DVD was better in the most recent version, build 1631 as I remember.  Do you have the most recent build?  The iport process has to read the files to generate the previews and that is where the slow down may be - I think Peter K suggested that on his forum.

Is there a particular reason you are cataloging off line files? 

I'm wondering if it would be easier to create a directory with your DVD identification as the name and copy all of the files to it?  Then import the files from the local hard disk.  You could then delete the files if you do not have sufficient space to store your files.  I know this is not very direct.

Many of us keep copies of our files "live and local" and use DVD for a secondary back up of our files.  Unfortunately, many of us do not experience the issues your are experiencing, so our help may not be particularly "helpful".
