I'm wondering if anyone here knows the answer to my StackOverflow question (copy+pasted below since I can't add links)?

I want to have my app pre-installed in a carrier's firmware, but I've been told that 7.8MB is too large for embed and that I should have a stub/launcher.

I've already done this on Android and the process is rather simple, but I don't know whether it requires anything special on Windows Phones.

What I do on Android is that I can create a blank app that uses the same package name as the real app and is signed with the same signature as the real app. On launch, the stub app opens the Play Store page where the user can install the current version of the app. Once installed, because the package name and signatures match, the app overrides the stub.

I'm not as versed in Windows Phone development as I am in Android Development. Is there a way to do the above on Windows Phone?

You'll need to check your OEM docs with your OEM partner as I'm not familiar with the details there and it's off topic for the forum, but I'd think the same basic concept should work: install your stub app and then have the full app as the next version for the user to upgrade to.
