I'm rather new to these forums and I'm a beginner in WP so I'm not really sure this is the place for this question but hopefully someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

I am learning about building apps for Windows Phone 8/8.1 using JS and what I'd like to do is being able to send/read SMS messages using the phone's mobile connection.

However they seem to be for Windows 8.1 rather than Windows Phone 8.1 and whenever I start it with the phone emulator I get an error saying that Sms is null (basically "Unable to get property 'SmsDevice' of undefined or null reference").

It seems rather strange that Windows.Devices.Sms doesn't exist in the context of Windows Phone. Is there something I could use? My target are the Nokia Lumia phones.
