Call me weird but I like to have the Start Page tab open on the left partly as a quick reference and partly as a spacer.

But...for the last year or more it just disappears. If I pin it it is not there on opening another VS2015, or closing and reopening the current solution, or closing and reopening any other solution. EVERY time I open VS2015 I gotta display the Start Page, move it to the left, and pin it.

How hard can it be??? How do I make VS2015 open the Start Page and keep it where I want it?

Welcome to the MSDN forum and sorry for this delay reply.

Refer to your description, I tested it on my VS enterprise 2015 (version: 14.0.25431.01 Update 3) and it works fine as your described.

1. Check the checkbox "Keep page open after project loads" on the start page
2. Open one solution and the Start page default display at the right side
3. Drag it to the left and pin it
4. Like you said, close and reopen the current solution, the Start page display at the left and pinned
5. Close the solution and open another solution, the Start page display at the left and pinned

Does this issue happens recently in your VS 2015? Please have a try with the following to troubleshot this issue:

1. Go to the VS 2015 installation folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE and open cmd to locate this folder, then run the following commands. After each command, start VS and test this issue again
   • devenv /safemode: run VS with safe mode to check if the installed extension caused this, then go to Tools-Extensions and Updates-Installed and remove one by one to find the culprit
   • devenv /resetuserdata: clean up the old data cache
2. Go to Tools-Import and Export Setting-Reset all settings, backup your current settings and restore the setting
3. Go to Control Panel-Programs and Features, right click the VS 2015 and choose ‘Repair’ to repair VS.
