I have been asked if the InfoPath SharePoint order item can prepopulate the form on prior form fill...
this is how it was asked.
if I complete an order - with all the info....and it
goes through the process - if say, 8 months down the road, and i initiate an
order for the same printer - will the data from the previous order be on the
form, or will it be blank?
I do not know how to store a prior item in a session state for 8 months, waiting for them to select the item to order again...

If you want to automatically populated the fields in the new form with the value of previous (latest) item.
You can use the InfoPath form to get the value from previous (latest) item, follow the steps below.
1. Creating a second data connection to receive data from this list. When we created the data connection, make sure it sorted by ID in Descending order.
2. Get field value from the second data connection. It will get the values of the latest item.
If you want to automatically populated the fields in the new form with the value of any previous item, create a lookup column to get information from the list and auto-populate fields based on the lookup value in InfoPath.
1. Open the form in InfoPath.
2. Click Data Connections under Data tab > Add > Receive data > SharePoint library or list > Enter the path of your SharePoint site > select the list.
3. Select the fields which you want to auto-populate in the form.
4. Enter a name of the data connection and click Finish.
5. Right click text box > Text Box Properties > Default Value > Insert Field or Group > Show Advanced view > Select the data connection you just created at step 4.
6. Select the field which you want to auto-populate data > Filter Data > Filter the data based on the lookup filed data.
