In my Furniture list, I have a lookup field that points to the Suppliers list. When I set it up to accept single values, the Edit form shows a dropdown correctly populated with the Suppliers. But when I change the lookup to allow multiple values, the Edit form shows the usual two-panel control, but the panels are completely blank, as if the Suppliers list was empty. I have tried this on different lists, document libraries, even MySites with the same result. In fact, the OOB MySites Blog entries have a lookup into the Categories list. Even there, the blog post edit page shows the categories as blank, even though I have defined a bunch of them.

recheck whether the column  you set in the "ShowField" attribute when you define the lookup column  is empty or not
