Thanks for posting in the MSDN Forum.

I would recommend you clarify your goal more clearly. What mean of "xml" here? As far as I know that Word have a kind of xml file format named "Word xml document" or "Word 2003 xml document". Do you "xml" means that? An it’s based on my experience that retrieve the information and write recorder to a customized xml format document is a usual way for some program. So I’m not sure about your goal in this case.

And whether use Visual Studio 2012 & Windows 8 and whether your project is a wpf application, .NET Web application, Console application, Windows form application, use C#, VB.NET will not prevent you to approach your goal if you have installed Open Xml SDK on your target machine.
