Method i created the offline installation

.\vs_Community.exe --layout E:\vs2017\vs2017offline --lang en-US --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.Universal Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.ManagedDesktop Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.NetWeb Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.Node Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.VisualStudioExtension Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.NativeDesktop Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.NetCoreTools Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.DependencyValidation.Community Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.TestTools.Core


first attempt, to install failed because AVG have to disable. and and clear everything. start over again.

1. %ProgramData%\Microsoft\VisualStudio and delete the Packages folder./
2. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio folder and delete the 2017 folder

Still failed. some files is missing. after checking the offline installation folder, found out itis because "file name too long" and file is not downloaded.

So , this time i connected internet while run the offline installation. Still failed. So, i try a differ solution, put all the offline installation into a iso image and mount it. and run the installation with internet connected. i'm still crazy, the installation just stop at a point, busy downloading for the same file for few hours. So, i just end task it, start over again. Next attempt is run installation from is image without internet connected. successful with error, after checking the error logs.

I attempt to download the missing file and install it, but i can not install it

Also few file is not exist for download too.

Successful to sign in Visual Studio, but few items is missing from the menu, but exist in 2015 edition. Is this a down grade version on 2017?

Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Please have a look at this: Create an offline installer for Visual Studio 2017 and Downloadthe setup file you want, I tested it on my side, if I choose to download the VS community 2017 and got the bootstrapper file like vs_community__112152189.1478852307.exe then use it to download the offline installer packages.

Refer to your command, it looks like you try to download 7 workloads and 2 components for English, on the Windows 10 computer, I used the command: vs_community__112152189.1478852307.exe --layout c:\vs2017Test1\vs2017offline –add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.Universal Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.ManagedDesktop Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.NetWeb Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.Node Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.VisualStudioExtension Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.NativeDesktop Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.NetCoreTools Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.DependencyValidation.Community Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.TestTools.Core --lang en-US on my side to download it. After it, the size of the whole offline installer is like the following screenshot.

Before your next installation, please go to Control Panel—Programs and Features, right click the VS 2017 and Uninstall it, then try to manually remove the folder %ProgramData%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Packages\ and the Visual Studio folder installation folder (normally under %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Community) then reboot the computer.

When you start the installation, you need to install the certificates (They are in the Certificates folder, which is in your Layout folder. Simply right-click each one to install it.), then run the installation file like vs_community__112152189.1478852307.exe under the root folder of the installation.

BTW, since your computer have the internet connect, why did you used the offline installer? Make sure windows update is up-to-date, temporarily disable any antivirus software, clean up and directly run the installer file as administrator, and select those workload and components on the installer windows is more intuitive.

If this installation still fail, you can use http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.zip under %temp% folder then upload the file to https://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link here.
