So we are having an issue with a SharePoint site getting hung up (sitting at "Working on it...") and they are using probably 30-40 workflows with roughly 20 running daily.  IIS Reset is the only way we can get the site back up.  The site seems to go down every 3-4 days.  Nothing is really showing up in the event logs as a real issue so we are starting to think the workflows they have on the site are causing the issues.

I was looking in IIS Manager on the SharePoint servers and noticed the Workflow Management Pool we have running is set with an idle-timeout of 20 minutes and a recycle time of every 29 hours.  Should these values be changed to match our other pools which are 0 idle-timeout and recycle time of 3:00am or so? Could poorly developed workflows cause the site to hang like this?  We are using Nintex workflows too by the way.

By design application pools in IIS are restarted once per every 29 hours to provide best performance and stability. It could cause the slow loading at the first load as .net assemblies needs to be recompiled to the memory. We need to warm up script to warm up the sites.
