If not, then I am considering taking on this task. I am sure that someone in the dev team would be a better choice, but I don't know if that is in progress already.

Key platform would be Windows 7. I know that there are improvements in Windows 8, but Windows 8 improvements aren't meaningful unless they are ported down-level to Windows 7. (Be honest...)
