History,

SQL Server (Hyper-V server 2012 R2 std) had a run away checkpoint process eating up disk space. I use Nova Backup and did a complete SQL Server DB backup.

I then blew away the Hyper-V server instance and rebuilt it. Same computer name, same IP address and configuration in Hyper-V.

 I then joined the domain and loaded SQLServer 2012SP1.and brought it current and set all the SharePoint requirements, firewall, maxop, etc... With a different SID on the server. Connections a are TCP & Named Pipes

I then  opened Share[point and get the following connection error from SharePoint:

I then tried to open the SharePoint central admin console and got:  

How do I re-connect to a rebuilt SQLServer VM?

You need to rebuild your farm since the db has changed.
