I need to delete a system file, in this case, 'hiberfil.sys'.  I added another 4GB of RAM to my machine, and powercfg was unable to resize the hiberfil file because access is denied (!!!!!), so now hibernation is diabled.  I have tried to delete the file in safe mode, I enabled the administrator account, I have tried taking ownership via the security tab, and I have tried from an elevated command prompt to use the takeown command, all of which tell me that access is denied.

Please, someone, there must be a way to delete this file short of removing the hard drive, putting it in a USB enclosure, and deleting it from a seperate computer?  And before someone suggests that this is somethng to do with powercfg, it is disabled, and there are no references to hibernation in any of the power profiles or in their respective button actions (like lid closed, power button pressed, etc.).  I can't reenable hibernation either (powercfg -h on) because of the error accessing the hiberfil.sys file.

I know that if I can just delete this file, then a new file will be created when I enable hibernation, and all will be well with my world.

I removed the hard drive, put it in an external USB enclosure, attached it to another machine, and successfully deleted the file.  But then, when I replaced the drive back in the original machine, hiberfil.sys was back, at the same exact, too small size, and with the same last access date from two weeks ago!!  And again, access is denied. Where in the world is it coming from? There are no other hard disks on the system.
