I have a Lenovo T61 Laptop installed with Vista Enterprise edition. My Audio device is working perfectly with latest Drivers. But when i join my laptop to the Domain (Win2003 domain), Audio stops working. But all my audio services are running, device is enable in device manager, no driver issue. When i go to Controll pannel, open Sound and choose speakers and click configure and click Test, it says "Failed to play test tone". When i run dxdiag.exe it pops up an error message "Error: Problem gettingextra sound info".
When i disconnect the laptop from Domain and restart the Laptop twice, Audio starts working. We dont have any restrictions on the domain policy for stopping the Audio devices or services.
I have tried some of the solutions given in forums like clearing "Enable audio enhancements" check box and still its not working.

Very interesting.  One possibility is that there's a problem with the registry ACL's; another possibility is that there's a problem with the driver.

Some possible fixes:
1) In Device Manager, choose "Update Driver Software...", "Browse my computer...", "Let me pick..." and try the High Definition Audio Device driver (the Microsoft HD Audio class driver.)  If that works then your ACLs are probably fine and the problem is with the SoundMAX driver installation.  Reinstalling the SoundMAX driver from setup.exe should fix the problem permanently.

2) If the HD Audio class driver doesn't work try reinstalling the SoundMAX driver anyway.

3) If neither of those work then the ACL problem is quite likely.  Larry Osterman blogged a while back about a similar but not identical problem .  Mucking around with Process Monitor and reinstalling the OS are different approaches to take here; both are scary, but which is less scary depends highly on the individual.
