I have an unusual case at work that I haven't been able to track down a solution for. Our client devices, everything from HP desktops and laptops to Fujitsu tablets, all have the same issue. A user logs into the machine and is presented with a Citrix XenApp PNAgent credential pop-up. This is not a Citrix specific issue even though there are many Citrix TID's that are similar, I've ruled out the Citrix/Microsoft Prefetch issue, CTX111880 and many other documented issues. This primarily affects a single user on most or all logins to a device, though the issue can disappear for a time and return after days, weeks or even months. To intentionally reproduce the issue a user account needs to remain idle for somewhere between 4 to 8 hours, then the account is logged off and a different user logs in (without a reboot). This has approximately a 75% chance of causing the issue. At this time winlogon.exe "forgets" to call mpnotify.exe, which means none of the Network Providers are called. Normally this would be a minor issue but we're running Citrix XenApp 11.0.34 with PNAgent and SSON components which are handled by mpnotify.exe's call to the pnsson.dll Network Provider. The end result is that ssonsvr.exe is not running when pnagent.exe or pnamain.exe are looking for user credentials. Note: While Citrix XenApp 11.0.34 is a private build the Citrix 11.2 general release has also been seen to have the issue in our environment. I've used userenv.log files and MS/Sysinternals Process Monitor to confirm that there are no failures launching mpnotify.exe, it just isn't called when the issue occurs.

*Devices are Windows XP SP3. No confirmation that SP3 is on ALL devices with issues, some could be SP2.

The Citrix 11.2 tests were done only in a Novell environment and client settings were not correct which makes these tests less than accurate.
