I'm trying to figure out a very old issue we've had at my company - the 2 previous admins from before I started here both investigated this issue and were unable to fully resolve it.

At one time, users were completely unable to follow documents or sites, although following people was working. One of the previous admins was able to resolve that to an extent (he didn't explain what was actually done), but there was still a problem afterward.

Followed documents and sites are now displayed as a full URL (minus file attachment) instead of by title, and are not hyperlinked. In addition there are no image tiles shown, and the web part banner that would usually say 'Sites you're following' at the top has no text, just the underline. I've spent a long time trying to search for references on any similar experiences but I really cant find any mention anywhere, and I don't see any sort of setting or control that allows you to directly modify how that data is presented.

Please go to my site, click gear icon in the top right of the page->site contents, find the Social list, click "…" ->SETTINGS.

In the Social list settings page, scroll down to Views section and click "Followed Documents" view, make sure the "Title", "Type( icon linked to document)", "Url", "Icon Url" and other columns you want to display are selected under Columns section.
