As the title suggests I need your help in setting up Directx (dont know which version!) on a Win7 machine running Visual Studio 2015 community version.

Visual Studio Community Edition ships with some DirectX templates, but those templates are actually aimed at creating Windows 8.1 or Window 10 windows applications. Since you are working with Windows 7 those won't be as helpful for you.
