Hi
We have a USB device with flash memory and firmware that makes it look like a a FAT16 flash drive. The device stores VB.net product support software files. The device files are copied from the device to a PC an then installed. Works well on Win XP
thru Win 8.1.
When updating those files (updating support software revision) the device firmware re-formats flash memory and sets the Media Change state. Win XP thru Win 8.1 refresh the devices file system view and the device shows as an empty drive. From
there we copy new files to the device using the VB.net application.

with Win 10 since the anniversary update. After the device re-formats the flash and sets the media change state Win 10 still shows all the files even though they have been erased. Trying to copy files to the device fails. The only way to recover
is to unplug, then plug in the USB connector.
Is there a way to programmatically force Win 10 to refresh its view of the flash drive in the device without unplugging it?

It's possible you may be able to correct the issue outside of trying a programmatic solution. But I don't know if anything below will work. And prior to altering the Registry I would suggest making a system restore point on the system in case you need to revert to the time right before altering the registry.

1. Run registry editor (regedit.exe) as administrator
2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID
3. Right-click on CLSID and perform a search for "dontrefresh"
4. Change the values to 0
5. Keep hitting F3 to continue searching registry for the same value. If a result is found, change its value to 0.
6. Hit F5 to refresh registry
7. Open command prompt without elevation and issue the following command: tskill explorer
8. Your Explorer shell should now be able to automatically update changes made to files and folders. You can test this by creating a folder on desktop and attempting to rename it.
