I want to open a .oft file in html using java script, i could do this with ActiveX Object. But Activex Object is not suported in firefox. is there any other way to do this?

AFAIK, it''s not possible to access file objects via Javascript (apart from ActiveX control which has security access issue and IE only support).

Because of security issues, browsers are not allowed to access client system files. Possible workaround could be to keep the file on webserver and provide a link to it. On clicking the link file can open in the default associated opener.
