What we are doing with our said SharePoint is allow an easy and friendly use to use a dataview list to view certain key assets.  While there is a selection tool dropdown box. it only allows me to select one asset at a time, and we will need it to filter a range of different of assets.  Example our database has a list of different cars, and with it a list of purchase cost.  I wanted to filter to all cars that cost more then 10K, I would have to go to that column select it and I only see that one clicked.  I can't select multiple or have the range I need.  Is there a way to get it?

According to your description, it seems that you want to filter multiple items based on a column.
If it is like this, you can use a custom view to achieve it.
In the list that you want to filter, click Create View.
