I have some problems with tasks status: "not started". When I try to complete this task it give me message: This task is currently locked by a running workflow and cannot be edited.

So I have one list with few workflows. Everything was fine until I add some new workflows. Now depending on first task it will start: long workflow or short version (previously I had only long version). Each workflow has it own task list also with workflow. In short workflow there is a problem only with last task. In long workflow problem is with first task (before adding new workflows there wasn't such problem). What can cause my problems with tasks?

I noticed that after some time task is "in progress" and can be finished. Also I noticed that the problem is only there where I send email before task. Why sending email so much slow down a workflow?
