Added table from SQL Server database to my lightswitch application( using update2) using add external data.  Have Desktop client and HTML client.  If  I add the table to the Desktop client screen the values show up.  If I add the table to the HTML Client screen the values don't show up.

In both cases I ran sql profiler on the external database and the the correct query was made.

The query was executed correctly on the HTML Client, so it looked like you have the correct Screen Collection Property. I would check if you have the correct List View on the Screen bound to the Screen Collection Property (or just drag/drop the Screen Collection Property to the Screen Designer again).
