Firstly, apologies if this is not the correct place to ask this question...

We are using Developer Studio 2008 to develop our product, and we think that the editor is very good. We are looking for a 3rd party Editor to embed into our own product, and so the VS2008 editor would obviously be ideal.

May i please ask if Microsoft license out their Editor to allow it to be used in other people's applications please? (or if they charge a cost for doing so).

I know its unlikely but i though it would be worth asking.

The VS2008 editor is really part of the core of visual studio.  If you really want the editor, you should consider building your application on top of VS2008 Shell (isolated mode).  See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb685691.aspx for details.
