I am working at a customer using Visual Studio 2012 Shell integrated. I am using the server object explorer to connect to our APS.

I have full access to the server and as you can see I have IS, SSDT etc all installed. I am getting this error when I try to do a SELECT statement on ANY database, but also when I try e.g. SELECT 1 or GETDATE().

I can however connect and view the data from PowerBi... I can also DROP, CREATE objects like tables or views.

I have googled a bit but without success or any idea except for rebooting the server. Unfortunately that is not an easy option and my colleagues do not have the same issue. Below a picture of my VS settings.

Could it be related to a VS 2012 UPDATE x installation? Could it be due to me having also community 2017 installed which night have some more recent components blocking something in VS2012?

Hello,
Visual Studio 2012 is old. Azure has evolved the last 6 years in such a way that VS 2012 may not be able to properly use Azure features thus crash. Please update VS 2012.
The component shown on the error message is part of SQL Server Management Studio which you can download from the following URL:
