A generalized image is a capture of an already installed Operating System without the machine specific settings and without user’s settings. For example, the machine name, its SID, the administrator password and so on are not retained when capturing the image. You can think of Generalized VM Image as a model you can use to stamp out similar VMs, and the specialized VM Image as a snapshot of the disks used to deploy a VM to a known good point in time. In regards of Unmanaged Image, I guess you are referring to any Custom VHD image uploaded and stored on an Azure Storage Account.
