My company has purchased an off-the-shelf product that we are using for contact and order management. This application is closed to me of course as I don't have the code. It is an application that exposes a Windows UI and is written in COBOL.

Once compiled you are pretty much out of luck, I'm not saying it can't be done but it would require quite some knowledge about the low level windows internals and some knowledge about what the cobol compiler did to the code. Supporting this kind of ulgy ugly hack is something you don't want to do.
