I'm reaching out to the community looking for input on alerting and monitoring best practices in Azure.  I understand there are uniquenesses within apps and use cases that would make these not so easy to standardize but assume there's a starting point out there to work from.

Just for some background...  The team I work on supports internal Azure dev teams that have their own app monitoring (eg. App Insights, App Dynamics, etc.) and should be aware of application health.  In addition we feel it's also important to have notifications set so the cloud support team gets a heads up if there's a runaway or critical resource issue as an added failsafe.

Azure Monitor enables core monitoring for Azure services by allowing the collection of metrics, activity logs, and diagnostic logs. For example, the activity log tells you when new resources are created or modified. Azure alerts proactively notify you of critical conditions and potentially take corrective action. Alert rules can use data from multiple sources, including metrics and logs. They use action groups, which contain unique sets of recipients and actions in response to an alert.
