I was looking at storage details of my SharePoint environment and found that under this location

here is a folder with s GUID as its name and is consuming 12.5 GB of space on one of the Index components servers, but it is dated Dec 2015. This folder has a lot of .dat files -

I am not sure how did this folder land up here, because the same is not in the other Index Component server.

You can safely delete these files within the temp folder without any issue. but in some cases, there are temp files that hold by other programs, so it's suggested to 

1. Stop SharePoint Timer Service 
2. Delete your Temp files.
3. Start SharePoint Timer Service again.
