What they do is allow the user to edit and position the elements using javascript, then send those elements'' properties to the server for composition.

Use a library like jQuery UI[^] for drag and drop support, then use the System.Drawing[^] classes to compose and save out your final image (good tutorials on Bob Powell''s site[^]).
