Hi,
I recently received reformatted an old computer from my relative. But the problem with the computer the powers down when I try to play a game and watch a film.. Some people suggest me that formatting my hard drive and install new windows. Can anybody give me suggestion is it right advice?

Could be just about anything. If it''s a laptop maybe the battery is bad. If it''s a desktop you might want to check out the interior. I had troubles like that in 90''s with an old computer. It was all dirty inside so the heat sinks would not work properly. Please check if the heat sinks need to be cleaned.

100. If you have a spare card, try it, and if that fixes the problem, invest in a new card.

1) The memory is toast. Like the video card, system RAM is used pretty heavily when playing a game or watching videos. You can test the memory with any number of free utilities available on the net.

2) Your CPU is getting hot (and the system''s bios is shutting the system down). This could be caused by a heat sink that needs to be removed, cleaned, and new heat sink compound applied. This fix only costs a few dollars. I use Arctic silver compound, and it only costs a few dollars. This is definitely the cheapest this to address.

3) The power supply could be toast. The video card, CPU, and RAM draw a lot of power when you play a game or watch a video. The power draw could be causing the PSU to shut itself off.

No matter WHAT you find that the problem is, ALWAYS reformat the boot drive and install a fresh copy of Windows on any machine that you get from someone else. It''s simply not safe to ignore.
