I have installed sql server 2008 r2 on a remote server having windows web server 2008.
The problem is whenever I start management studio and log in the screen shows "instance specific or network related error". I have noticed that the mssql service is not running. I try to start the service but that can''t be done also.
Kindly help me with this issue

I got help from a peer of mine and found out that VIA protocol was enabled which was the cause of this problem. You can view this by opening the sql server configuration manager->sql server network configuration-> Protocols for MSSQL server
