I would like to know if "Classic Shell" will allow me to return to the flat folder icons of XP...and if I would be able to rearrange jpg/tif files in a folder by simply dragging/dropping, as I could in XP. The tech assistant on this forum could not answer those questions. Does anyone else know?

There are too different meanings usually implied under the term "Shell": Windows Shell API (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb773177(v=vs.85).aspx[^]) and the user interface based on the Shell such as standard Microsoft Explorer.

Using Shell API in UI guarantees standard behavior of managing the operating system, in particular file system, taking into account registered applications, file types, etc. At the same time, the implementation of such UI is not unique; there is number of excellent alternatives of Microsoft Explorer supporting such standard behavior via the Shell API.

If you implement your own file manager UI, you can relatively easily implement the feature you''re asking about. As to the standard Explorer, such feature is not implemented.

I would call such feature redundant, but this is a matter of personal taste.
